Mathematics
Students in Year 7 have three periods of Maths per week, Year 8 students have three or four periods depending on ability and Year 9 students have three periods. Able, gifted and talented students may be entered for examinations early, to enable them to progress to higher qualifications or study additional subjects. Students who make slower progress are given extra Numeracy lessons to ensure they reach the required standard.
In Years 10 and 11 most students study GCSE Maths (AQA).
Study Plus – this is a new course for students who have the potential to achieve a C in both English and Maths but are likely to require significant extra support. The course focuses on developing the key skills and techniques required to achieve a C or better in English and Maths. It does not lead to a qualification. The school will identify students that would benefit most from this extra support and recommend that they opt for this course the course is, however, open to everyone and we will consider applications for all students.
In the Sixth Form students can take Maths and Further Maths (AQA).
The Faculty Leader is Mrs L Laidler, to whom all queries regarding Maths at JMHS should be made.
