Curriculum
The curriculum at John Masefield High School is designed to enable students of all abilities to enjoy their studies and to maximise their achievement. The programme of study in all subject areas offers challenge whilst meeting the needs of all our learners. As a specialist Performing Arts college, the curriculum delivers enhanced provision in this area. Students follow a full National Curriculum programme at Key Stages 3 and 4, and are able to choose both academic and more vocational subjects at Key Stages 4 and 5. In addition to GCSE courses, students follow BTEC programmes as well as other modes of certification. Students at Key Stage 4 receive their statutory entitlement in RE, ICT and Citizenship.
At Key Stage 3, a number of our students are able to study two languages as well as undertaking a ‘fast-track’ Maths programme where they begin their GCSE course in Year 9. At Key Stage 4, students are able to access vocational courses where they spend part of the school week working in local business, including those following the Modern Apprenticeship programme.
We believe that the curriculum reflects our educational values and that it equips the students for further studies or the world of work.
