Community Activities
The 2008/9 Community Arts programme continues to introduce exciting new opportunities for many people in our locality.
Now in its third year, the Evening Class programme includes ‘Learn How to Play Acoustic Guitar’ and also ‘Steel Pans Band’ (we plan to have the newly formed community steel pans band performing later this year). We offer Digital Photography and Photoshop Elements classes as well as the ever popular Tai Chi, to name but a few. These classes are regularly advertised through the School Newsletter, the Ledbury Focus brochure as well as being featured in local newspapers and posters dotted around Ledbury.
Ledbury is very fortunate to have the Market Theatre on its doorstep and we continue to develop links with them as our students are given the chance to perform on stage there as well as in the school theatre
A new programme offering creative sessions for those who work with very young children continues. Early Learning providers will benefit from free workshops being brought into the ‘workplace’. The aim of these is to enable, through informal ‘training’, creative ideas to be explored and developed which are relevant for young children.
An after school Gifted and Talented Art group have been working with arts graduate Bryony Houghton on a sculpture project. The accompanying photograph shows a large scale colourful painting which will be developed into a sculpture. These are going to be exhibited ay the Weavers Gallery in March alongside a community Photographic Exhibition which Jeanette is organising. Photographs taken by students at JMHS and adult evening class students who have been working with Steve Bulley will exhibit their work. Steve is a professional photographer, teaches on Photoshop Elements and SLR Digital Photography on our evening classes.
Please contact Jeanette McCulloch at the Arts Office (01531 631012 et 126) or email jeanette.mcculloch@jmonline.org.uk if you require further information or you have ideas you’d like to see developed within our community.
